Donate to the FundraiserThis is Lauren Crane. She is a happy, interactive 18-month-old little girl. Lauren has a rare gene mutation that causes Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome Basically Lauren's brain doesn't tell her lungs to breathe. She is hooked up a ventilator machine, 24 hours a day 7 days a week through her tracheotomy tube. Lauren is the first child to enter the Crane family. There were no warning signs, this was a new mutation, and it was not passed on from either parent. She is always attached to her ventilator and is only able to be 4 feet away from her medical cart at any time. While the health issues initially appear daunting, with appropriate home care, family support and careful medical supervision, these children can lead fulfilling and productive, near-normal lives.
